SEO Fundamentals For Content Marketing
Forbes has recently covered some of the absolute fundamentals ways of improving your content marketing. What we’re going to do at Digital Jumpsuit is breakdown each one and discuss whether or not it’s worth drilling time into it or leaving it for a later date.
Now SEO can be difficult as a business if you’ve never done it before so these fundamentals can really make the difference.
Use keywords as concepts
In the article, they mention that keywords should be used as concepts than fixed phrases. Now, we completely agree that the days have gone with trying to stuff keywords into a piece of content. That doesn’t work anymore we’re afraid! But keywords do still matter which is why Forbes recommend thinking about keywords as a concept to help create the content you desire.
When you’re thinking about your content, pick one particular keyword and think about how your audience is going to search for that keyword so you can add different variations. You want your keywords to feel natural in your content and not as though you’ve shoehorned them in. If you want to be good at SEO, you want to write for your audience first and your search engines second.
Promote content to the right people
Again, in the article it mentions about reaching out to the right people like relevant micro-influencers which is completely true! If you’re wanting to outreach to other influencers, the big ones are way out of reach in regards to pricing, but the micro and nano-influencers are perfect for smaller businesses. What they provide is a loyal, relevant fanbase who have a much higher engagement that the larger influencers.
Internal Links Are A Must
Whilst Forbes mention how internal links are a must, we will say that you should definitely try and place internal links throughout your content, but only where appropriate.
What internal links can provide is easy navigation to relatable articles which that creates a loop for readers to get stuck in.
Don’t try and fit in as many as possible! Forbes recommend one or two internal links and we completely agree with this!
Page Titles Are Important
Brian Stutter who wrote the Forbes article mentions how page titles can make a huge difference – and we agree. They are one of the first things people will see when searching for a specific thing on search engines, so you need to make sure that it is relevant and engaging enough to want them to click and read.
Your titles function like headlines. So you need to make sure that they have a core keyword within.
Page Descriptions Go Hand-In-Hand With Page Titles
Page descriptions go hand-in-hand with page titles. They are used to create that text underneath the page title. You want your page descriptions to contain a related keyword or two, but they should mainly be there to entice whoever is reading to click into the article.
These steps that Brian mentions are all relevant to improving your SEO for content marketing. They are all extremely relevant for businesses who are looking to improve their content marketing and take it to the next level! It’s a very interesting article and is definitely worth the read.
